IMPROPER INVESTMENT – Apples to Oranges
DESCRIPTION:
Purchasing technology equipment can be a very complicated and stressful decision. Typically a business will buy the most probable fit that supposedly will last over a long period of time. Unfortunately without prior knowledge or a budget, most decisions result in the cheapest and least user-friendly machines.
RISK:
Investing strictly by brand or price can be deceiving. One must always consider the warranty terms, requirements for running the hardware/software, location, maintenance and interoperability with other equipment or programs. Often is the case when a new ‘Dell package’ is implemented into an aging environment and is incapable of performing without further technical renovations to other machinery.
CONSEQUENCES:
- Information is not shared over the entire network
- Cheap units can lead to costly upkeep
- Manufacturers may not provide on-site support
- File storage could get lost from one machine to another
“Dell’s limited hardware warranty does not cover:”
- Software, including the operating system and software added to the Dell-branded hardware
- Non-Dell branded and Solution Provider Direct products and accessories
- Problems that result from external causes such as accident, abuse, misuse, or power
- Servicing not authorized by Dell
- Failure to follow the product instructions or failure to perform preventive maintenance
- Problems caused by using accessories, parts, or components not supplied by Dell
